The school has a lively reading culture at the heart of which is the popular school library. Its aim is to encourage children to read for pleasure as well as to improve their literacy skills and increase their knowledge.
The Library has a large variety of both fiction and non fiction to suit all reading abilities and tastes, including the full range of the excellent Barrington Stoke titles for reluctant readers as well as a good selection of challenging books. The Librarian is always happy to give suggestions and advice on the choice of reading material.
The stock is kept up to date and exciting with a steady stream of new books including approximately 500 borrowed annually from the Bedfordshire Schools’ Library Service and the new books we receive in commission from the termly book fairs.
Each child is automatically a member and can borrow two books at a time for three weeks. Books can be kept over the school holidays except for the long summer break. Children are encouraged to submit book reviews, which are on display in the library together with lists of titles recommended for each year group. We also have a Swap Shop for used books from home.
Each class or English set has one half hour library lesson per week during which pupils can browse and borrow or return books.
The Library is open during morning registration, break and lunch times. The lunch hour is a quiet time for working, reading and research and other facilities are available such as computers for research work, magazines and chess games.
