French

Our aim is to make modern language learning a pleasant and successful
experience, within the framework of the National Curriculum.
Alameda, in common with most other Middle Schools in Bedfordshire, is
able to offer French to all pupils from Year 5. This exceeds the statutory
requirements of the National Curriculum and provides a sound basis for
foreign language learning at Key Stage 3. The school is presently
introducing the ‘Expo’ course in both Key Stages to teach pupils to
communicate effectively in French.
In Years 5 and 6, pupils are taught in mixed ability classes and receive a
one hour lesson per week. At Key Stage 3, in Years 7 and 8, pupils
receive two hours tuition each week and when the timetabling permits they are taught in
sets based on their performance in assessed tasks in year 5 and 6 and on the need for
well balanced teaching groups.
